Work through these checks in order
Pause games, navigation, hotspot use, camera recording and other intensive tasks.
If the device becomes abnormally hot while charging, unplug it and let it cool in a safe place.
Move out of direct sun, a hot vehicle or thick insulation. Do not put the device in a freezer or against ice.
Check whether heat began after an app, update, damaged charger, battery swelling, impact or liquid exposure.
A lifting screen, swollen case, hissing, smoke or chemical smell can indicate battery danger. Stop using and charging the device.
Before an erase, restore or repair decision
Confirm what data is backed up, what a reset or restore will remove, and whether you still need access to account credentials or authentication methods stored on the device.
When professional service makes sense
Hardware damage, repeated power failure, liquid exposure, battery swelling, damaged ports, broken displays and problems that persist after low-risk software checks can require qualified inspection.
